Porto Santo has had a new market, a revitalised old part of town a cultural and congress centre and a handicraft centre since 2003. It also has a recreational area in Penedo do Sono with a variety of restaurants and bars along the promenade to liven up that part of the city. The Golden Island's horse-riding centre and other important facilities are also being restored.

Beach Sports Stadium

This stadium opened at Praia do Penedo do Sono in September. It has splendid conditions for beach sports and excellent support facilities, such as locker rooms and medical assistance.
The complex has seating for 2,000 people in three stands, one of which is covered and seats 250 spectators. The other two are open-air stands.

Golf Course

In October, the President of the Regional Government is opening the first phase of Porto Santo Golf Course. The ceremony will also be attended by the former world champion golfer, Severiano Ballesteros.
The first phase offers two 9-hole circuits and a 9-hole, illuminated pitch and putt course, plus a clubhouse, putting green and driving range.
The second phase will include another two 9-hole circuits to the north of Pico Ana Ferreira and will bring together the three leisure and sports areas on the island: golf, tennis and horse riding.
